The short answer
XYPN Archive is built by XYPN for its members and archives social media, email and website data, with lexicon-based keyword monitoring.[1][2] Its Basic tier is included with membership. Turret is open to any SEC-registered adviser and triages outbound alerts with AI. It does not capture social media or texts. The choice turns on membership and review style.
Turret records alert actions and archive writes in append-only audit tables and produces a Supervision Activity Report and an Archive Integrity Report.
What this means for your firm
- If you are a member, open XYPN Archive and check which addresses are connected and whether the count fits Basic.
- If you are not a member, check eligibility first: XYPN requires fee-only status as the CFP Board defines it, and lists non-members as "contact for pricing".
- If you want AI-triaged outbound alerts queued for your reviewer, or a Marketing Rule workflow as software, Turret can run beside XYPN Archive as a second subscription.

Turret vs XYPN Archive, side by side as of October 17, 2026
Each XYPN statement in this table comes from an XYPN page we opened on October 17, 2026; the Turret column describes Turret. The number in brackets points to the source list at the bottom, where each page's own date is shown if it has one. XYPN's help center calls the product XY Archive.
| Topic | XYPN Archive | Turret |
|---|---|---|
| Who can use it | XYPN members: "available only to XYPN members."[2] | Any SEC-registered adviser. |
| Non-members and former members | XYPN's help page lists non-members as "contact for pricing" and offers a non-member option by email to firms that leave membership; no non-member price is published.[1] | Not tied to a membership. |
| Archived.[1] | Sent and received mail, Trash included. Spam, drafts and chats are not captured. | |
| Email providers | The XY Archive help center has "Setting Up Microsoft Mail Archiving" and "Setting Up Google Mail Archiving" articles.[10][11] | Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. |
| Website | Archived; Basic counts one website.[1] | Archived, on your own domain. |
| Social media | Help center lists Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Twitter/X.[4] | Not captured. |
| Text messages | Help center lists separate text-message integrations.[4] | Not captured. |
| Review method | "Lexicon-based data monitoring and communication flagging."[2] | Built-in patterns, then AI triage of each alert. |
| Mail reviewed | Sent or received, per a help article last updated March 5, 2024.[3] | Outbound only, by design. Inbound is archived, not reviewed. |
| Retention | Data stored "on our servers for seven years."[1] | A policy: 7 years, while you subscribe. |
| Storage | Stored using WORM (write once, read many) protocols.[2] | Per-message SHA-256 hash; append-only audit tables. |
| Included tier | Basic: 9 sources (8 sources plus 1 website), included with membership.[1] | Email: $99 a month for 5 monitored mailboxes. |
| Beyond that | Archive+: 26 sources (24 sources plus 2 websites), $150 a month for members.[1] | $25 per additional monitored mailbox. Complete (Email and Marketing): $178 a month. No setup fee. |
| Run by | "Built and released by XYPN's Tech Team."[2] | Turret, an independent vendor. |
Three notes on reading the XYPN column.
- Review process. Per the March 2024 help article, a flags list shows content that was "sent or received" and contains a monitored keyword; a reviewer marks it Violation or No Violation, a sender can be whitelisted, and a Reviewed tab records the reviewer and date.[3] That article does not say whether monitoring differs by tier.
- A source is not a mailbox. XYPN counts an email address you add as one of the sources in a tier.[1]
- Absence is not a finding. Where a feature is absent from XYPN's pages, that tells you what we could not find, not what the product lacks.

Choose XYPN Archive if
- You are already an XYPN member. Basic is included with membership,[1][5] so archiving adds nothing to what you already pay. Turret will not be cheaper than something you already have.
- You want social media or text messages archived. XYPN lists Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Twitter/X, plus separate text-message integrations.[4] Turret does not capture any of these.
- You want one relationship. XYPN builds the archive, and its pages also list compliance support with membership[7] and compliance and task management software included with membership.[6] One vendor means one place to call.
- Your accounts fit the tier. Basic lists eight sources plus one website, and each email address you add counts as a source.[1] A firm with more than eight email addresses and social accounts combined is past Basic's included count. Archive+ lists 24 sources plus two websites at $150 a month for members.[1] XYPN's page is the authority on how it counts.
- Keyword review of sent and received mail is enough. Per its help article last updated March 5, 2024, XYPN flags both directions.[3] Turret reviews outbound only. If your written procedures call for review of inbound mail, XYPN does something Turret does not.
Choose Turret if
- You are not an XYPN member, or are not eligible to be. XYPN describes Archive as available only to members.[2] Membership has requirements: XYPN requires fee-only status as defined by the CFP Board;[7] its fee is on XYPN's membership page. For non-members, XYPN's help page says "contact for pricing" and publishes no non-member price;[1] it also offers a non-member option by email to firms that leave membership.[1] Turret does not depend on membership, a fee model or a network.
- You want AI triage of outbound alerts. Turret flags outbound mail against built-in patterns, then triages each alert with AI. Each message gets one alert, an AI assessment, confidence filters, and a disposition of reviewed, false positive or escalated. The XYPN pages we read describe lexicon-based flagging and reviewer marking, and no AI triage.[2][3]
- You want Turret's audit mechanics. Turret records alert actions and archive writes in append-only audit tables, stores a SHA-256 hash for each archived message, and produces a Supervision Activity Report and an Archive Integrity Report. XYPN's Reviewed tab also records reviewer and date.[3] Whether either fits your supervision program is a judgment for your CCO and counsel.
- You want a Marketing Rule workflow as software. Turret's Marketing product is a submit, AI pre-screen, approve workflow with a retention clock for each approved piece. It costs $99 a month for 5 submitters, is sold on its own, and is software, not advice and not a person. On the XYPN side:
- Its compliance tiers list "Support managing advertising, billing, suitability, contracts, and email supervision,"[8] and hourly consulting lists "marketing materials and compliance document review."[9]
- Membership lists compliance and task management software.[6] We found no standalone Marketing Rule workflow tool on the XYPN pages we read.
What this means in practice
Decision test: if your procedures require inbound review or social or text capture, stay with XYPN Archive; if you want AI triage of outbound alerts or a standalone Marketing Rule workflow, add Turret or choose it; if neither applies, you may not need Turret.
Start with what you have. A member should open XYPN Archive and read what it captures and flags today: which addresses are connected, whether the count fits Basic, and what the Reviewed tab shows. Those settings, not the feature list, are the thing your procedures rest on.
Turret can run beside XYPN Archive. The cost is a second subscription and a second place to look, so it makes sense only if one of the differences above matters to you.
If you are not a member, the comparison starts with eligibility. XYPN's membership has its own requirements,[7] and its help page lists non-members as "contact for pricing" with no price published.[1] Ask XYPN what a non-member option covers and costs, then compare it with Turret's published prices on the pricing page.
XYPN states seven years of storage.[1] Turret's retention is a policy of 7 years while you subscribe. Neither statement tells you how far back any particular archive reaches, which depends on when capture began. Ask any vendor, including us, for the oldest message in your archive.
Where Turret fits
Turret is for a small SEC-registered adviser, 2 to 20 people, that is not covered by an XYPN membership, or that is and wants AI-triaged outbound review or a Marketing Rule workflow as well. Email is $99 a month with 5 monitored mailboxes included, Marketing is $99 a month, and Complete is $178 a month. There is no setup fee, and the trial is 15 days, with a card taken at the end of setup.
